Rumour has it that the developers of the SNES version (or id software themselves) were so frustrated with Nintendo’s censorship policies, they gave (or sold) the code for the SNES version to pirate company Wisdom Tree, who used it to make one of the only unlicensed SNES games, Super Noah’s Ark 3D. These changes would permutate in almost all followup ports of the game, which were all released in 1994, largely following id’s huge PC success with Wolfenstein’s spiritual successor game, Doom. Also, all blood was removed from the game (although apparently there’s a beta floating around with the blood intact!), all the voices were changed from German to English (boo!) and all the dogs were replaced by giant mutant rats.įrom a gameplay perspective, there are less levels than the PC version’s 60, and the game is really turned on its head–the “Noctural Missions,” the last three episodes focusing on enemies with hand-held nuclear weapons, are essentially gone, and the bosses that once lived in them are replaced with bosses from the PC’s followup/prequel, Spear Of Destiny–Trans Grosse, the Ubermutant, and the Death Knight. As Wolfenstein 3D is a game about killing Nazis, Nintendo thought it’d be perfectly appropriate to remove all references to Swastikas and Iron Crosses, and Hitler has been replaced by a guy named The Staatmeister. The next stuff you should do is: Replace the rat enemy with the original dog enemy. You can try using the YY-CHR tool to check out the sprites. An add-on PK3 that replaces the Mac weapon sprites with the Jaguar weapon sprites. Otherwise there's a plethora of Wolf3d specific modding tools out there. XWE works good for bulk exporting if you can match up the palette. Slade's not the best way to export sprites from Wolf3d's VSWAP files. You did a great job on decensoring those wall tiles, they came out great. They can open the other files that XWE can't. There are 6 weapons featured though 2 of them have only one. They are from a mod called Castle Hollermann. Changelog: - New pistol sprite - Added muzzle reflection on MP40 - Added 'hot barrel tip' on Chaingun and expanded its muzzleflash - New (optional) sound effects on a separated SFX file for all weapons. Heres a collection of weapons sprites sent in by Z. For anyone interested, the higher resolution weapon graphics was updated. The worst part of this port, though, is that it was a victim of Nintendo’s legendary censorship policies. That's really cool that you're going to make a uncensored hack for the SNES port of Wolfenstein 3D. Converting All Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny Music to MP3 By Kuki As the title states, this tutorial will help you extract all the music from the game to MP3. The HUD and gun sprites are all redrawn, however, and look a lot worse. For one thing, it’s very poor graphically in comparison to its DOS/PC brother–the walls are only 32x32 textures instead of the PC’s glorious (in comparison) 64圆4, although the enemies and objects are the same resolution as the PC version. The SNES port of Wolfenstein 3D is pretty universally disliked.
